
Diego Fernando Hernández Losada

Diego Hernandez is the current first deputy minister of Knowledge, Innovation, and Productivity of the newly established Colombian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MinCiencias). He was also the director of the Department of Science, and Innovation (Colciencias) between August 2018 and December 2019.
He has an extensive career in both the academic and administrative sectors. He served for three years as the Vice-Chancellor the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNal), and previously was the Dean of Engineering at the same institution. Also, from February 2004 until the present, he has worked as an Associate Professor at UNal. During his years at UNal, he was one of the leaders of various partnerships and internationalization projects between Purdue University and UNal such us the UREP-C program, a research internship program at Purdue University for students at UNal.
In 2010 he received the Julio Garavito Order of Merit Medal given by the President of Colombia, which is a recognition to distinguished Colombians for their important contributions in the various facets of their professional and scientific career.
