Ana Maria Ulloa

Ph.D Student in Materials Engineering at Purdue University 

Ana Ulloa is a 2nd year Ph.D. Student in the School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Purdue University. At Purdue, her research focuses on the development of user-friendly sensors for on-site, fast, and simple electrochemical detection of contaminants for environmental safety.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she started working on the design and development of a biosensor for the detection of SARS-CoV-2.


Ana holds a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry from Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNal), Bogota. While an undergrad,  she worked as a laboratory assistant in the genetics institute at UNal and also participated in an exchange program at Purdue University, where she joined Professor Stanciu lab to work on biodegradable implants.


She is currently the vice-president of the Colombian Student Association at Purdue, promoting Colombian culture at Purdue and integrating our community through numerous events. Additionally, she is the professional development chair of the MSE graduate student association.
